“Due Diligence in California Wine Country”

Glenwood Springs, CO (March 28, 2008) – Golf Club Consulting, Inc. was retained by a large Chicago investment company to review and analyze the golf course of Sonoma Golf Club in Sonoma, California.

The Sonoma Golf Club is included in the considered purchase of the Sonoma Fairmount Mission Inn and Spa.  Presently, both are owned by Crescent Real Equities Company of Texas.

“Our purchase due diligence includes reviewing every physical and financial aspect of the operation of the golf course,” said a representative of the investment company that is considering the purchase.  “When you consider making a purchase of a golf course that was built in the 1920’s, there will be many unrevealed issues”, he added.

In 1928, Sam Whiting fashioned an 18-hole jewel that was first named the Sonoma Mission Inn Golf and Country Club to capitalize on the historic lore and romance of the Sonoma Valley and to serve as a prestigious amenity for the popular resort. “The Sonoma Mission Inn Golf and Country Club is one of the prettiest spots in California,” the local newspaper declared when it opened in 1928.

Each October, the course hosts the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.  This prestigious season-ending tournament of the PGA Champions Tour usually determines the winner of the season-long competition for the $1 million Charles Schwab Cup.  Past winners have included Tom Watson and Tom Kite.

“Our role is to review and analyze the golf course and it’s operating amenities to assure the potential owner is very knowledgeable of its condition.  The review will include every aspect of the golf agronomy including the greens, tees, fairways, bunkers and most importantly the water used for irrigation.  Being the golf course was built in 1928, we will especially investigate every aspect of the improvements from the past 15 years,” said Richard N. Eide of Golf Club Consulting, Inc.

The physical course inspection is scheduled in the next few weeks and will be followed by a comprehensive off-site analysis of what was found during the course inspection.  The final analysis will include turf agronomy recommendations.
