“Cancun Golf Course Renovation to get an Expert Analysis”

Glenwood Springs, CO (January 20, 2007) – Golf Club Consulting, Inc. was retained by the owners of the Hilton Cancun Spa and Golf Resort to review a recent $2.6 million golf course reconstruction project.

In October of 2005, the golf course was heavily damaged and under a foot of seawater for several days after Hurricane Wilma stuck the Yucatan resort area.

“We put a lot of work into this project and we want to make sure everything in our reconstruction efforts was first-class,” said Julio Viscontti, Director of Golf Operations of the Hilton Cancun Spa and Golf Resort.

“The assignment will include analyzing the golf course construction efforts for scope-of-work adherence by the contractors involved,” said Richard Eide of Golf Club Consulting, Inc.  “At the same time, we will review the existing golf course maintenance practices and make recommendations to assure the project improvements are continued.” Eide added

The project included a total re-grassing of the golf course to Sea Isle I Paspalum, which is a highly salt tolerant grass.  “Paspalum is like bermuda-grass on steroids.  It’s not perfect, but it has great establishment and recovery traits.  Above all, it’s very tolerant of salty conditions and is an excellent playing surface, much like bent-grass,” said Eide.

The improvements also included the installation of a fully computerized Toro Site Pro irrigation system throughout the entire golf course and new sand in every golf course bunker.

“The main focus of these improvements was to continue our goal of providing the best for our guests” said Viscontti.

The study will begin immediately and take 3 weeks to complete.
